Here is a quick guide to what is available to get started with Dylan programming for Windows for free. You have a number of choices available using the Functional Developer product available from Functional Objects, Inc. You can download the Basic Edition of Functional Developer. This product is free and allows you to explore the Dylan language. Don't forget to download the documentation. To start using Dylan and Functional Developer effectively, you'll need to download some of the add on libraries. You can add the Core Libraries Pack to get most of the Dylan libraries. For GUI programming you'll probably want to add the DUIM GUI Framework Pack. Note that the add on libraries have a 30 day trial period - after that you need to buy them to continue using them. To really get a feel for the power of Dylan and Functional Developer I'd suggest downloading and installing all the tools and libraries and use them for the 30 day free trial period. This will give you an idea of what libraries you might want to purchase if you decide to stick with Functional Developer. |
